Synopsis :
Un an après les incidents de SAO, Kirito est approché par Seijirou Kikuoka du département « Réalité Virtuelle » du Ministère des Affaires Internes et de la Communication, qui a pour lui une demande particulière. Il s’agit d’enquêter sur l’incident du « Death Gun » survenu dans le jeu Gun Gale Online (GGO), le nouveau VRMMO basé sur les armes à feu. « Les joueurs attaqués par le mystérieux avatar avec le « Death Gun » perdent la vie même dans le monde réel… ». Kirito accepte avec réticence la requête étrange de Kikuoka, et se log dans GGO même s’il n’est pas complètement convaincu par le fait que le monde virtuel puisse influencer le monde réel. Il explore alors un monde avec lequel il n’est pas familier pour obtenir des indices sur le « Death Gun », quand une joueuse utilisant l’énorme fusil « Hecate II » lui propose son aide. Avec l’aide de Sinon, Kirito décide de participer au « Bullets of the Bullets », un grand tournoi qui élira le plus grand tireur de GGO, dans le but d’être pris pour cible par le « Death Gun » et pouvoir établir un contact direct…
